Financial Literacy Essential to Prevent Illegal Online Loans
November 10, 2025 • Ben Asmadeus

Members of Commission XI of the House of Representatives said on Monday, 10 November 2025, that financial literacy is a key factor in protecting Jakarta’s public from illegal online loans. They stressed that understanding basic finance helps citizens avoid high‑interest quick‑credit schemes.
The Ministry of Economy reports financial inclusion at 92.74% but financial‑literacy at only 66.64%, creating a 26.1‑point gap. Commission members argue that low literacy prevents people, especially in rural areas and small cooperatives, from accessing official credit programs.
Expanding financial‑education outreach to cooperatives and micro‑enterprises is expected to reduce exposure to illegal loan scams. Such measures can also strengthen the financial independence of small businesses and support inclusive economic growth.
