Indonesia Open Unemployment Rate Falls to 7.46 Million in August
November 5, 2025 • Ben Asmadeus

Indonesia’s Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that the open unemployment rate fell to 4.85 % or 7.46 million people in August 2025. This represents a 0.06‑percentage‑point decline from August 2024.
The decrease was observed across both genders—4.85 % for men and 4.84 % for women—and in urban (5.75 %) and rural (3.47 %) areas. Labor absorption was strongest in agriculture, trade and manufacturing, while other services, mining, finance and real estate showed weaker hiring.
The figures indicate a modest improvement in the labour market, although youth aged 15‑24 still face the highest unemployment at 16.89 %. Continued focus on job creation in agriculture and trade may help accelerate the downward trend.
