October 20, 2025 • Ben Asmadeus

On 17 October 2025, Tax Director Bimo Wijayanto convened a meeting at the Directorate General of Taxes headquarters in Jakarta with film figures Luna Maya, Deddy Mizwar, and representatives of the film industry. The session was also attended by the Indonesian Film Producers Association (PPFI), the Indonesian Film Producers Association (APROFI), and the Indonesian Film Entrepreneurs Association (APFI).
The discussion centered on tax disparities between domestically produced movies and imported titles, covering concerns over value‑added tax (VAT) and specific goods and services tax (PBJT). Applicable regulations include Minister of Finance Regulation No 121/2015 and No 197/2013, as well as Law No 1/2022, which impose a 10 % import duty on non‑tangible film imports and a withholding income tax (PPh) Article 22 for importers.
The Directorate indicated that the dialogue aims to reform tax rules to ensure a level playing field for local producers and importers, thereby enhancing tax compliance and supporting national economic growth. Further consultations are planned to monitor policy impact and adjust regulations to the evolving film sector.
