Special Tax Consultants Needed to Boost UMKM Compliance

From 2019 through 2025, central and regional governments have run assistance programs for UMKM (micro, small, and medium enterprises) across Indonesia. The author, an UMKM operator, notes that the intensity of guidance rose sharply during the Covid‑19 pandemic.

The training covers product development, marketing, export, and legal matters, but tax compliance (accurate reporting and timely payment of taxes) receives only brief mention. Voluntary tax compliance relies on taxpayers’ willingness to fulfill obligations without coercion.

The author proposes assigning dedicated tax consultants to each assistance program so UMKM receive continuous support for filing and meeting tax duties. Such assistance is expected to raise compliance rates, strengthen business credibility, and ease access to financing.
