On 13 March 2025, Indonesia joined 126 jurisdictions that must automatically exchange financial account information (AEOI) and required financial institutions to report through the Coretax portal. The requirement is grounded in Law No. 9/2017 on Access to Financial Information for Tax Purposes and subsequent ministerial regulations.

AEOI obliges banks, insurers, custodians and other reporting entities to identify accounts held by foreign taxpayers, collect account balances and income, and transmit the data to the tax authority. Institutions must self‑identify, register by the end of February, and submit reports by 30 April for domestic accounts or by 1 August for foreign accounts, using Coretax or the OJK‑run SIPINA system.

Timely compliance expands the tax base, supports Indonesia’s international transparency commitments, and helps curb cross‑border tax avoidance. Failure to file can result in up to one‑year imprisonment or fines up to Rp 1 billion, underscoring the legal weight of the reporting obligation.
