Finance Minister Purbaya: Deficit to Remain Below Three Percent

JAKARTA, October 29, 2025 – Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa said there is no plan to raise the budget deficit ratio above three percent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP). He made the statement at a press conference held by the Ministry of Finance on Wednesday (29/10/2025).

Purbaya added that the ceiling could be reassessed if national economic growth reaches seven percent, which he views as sufficient to adjust borrowing levels responsibly. He noted that Indonesia’s debt‑to‑GDP ratio remains below forty percent, well under the sixty‑percent limit set by Law No 17/2003 on State Finance.

The stance underscores the government’s aim to preserve fiscal stability while using measured debt to spur growth, providing certainty for investors and the private sector. Tight monitoring of the deficit is expected to limit inflation risks and sustain market confidence.
