DPR Lawmaker Urges Minister to Waive PBB Tax on Pesantren

DPR member Rieke Diah Pitaloka asked Finance Minister Purbaya to cancel a PBB tax on Pesantren Al‑Fath Jalen in Tambun Utara, Bekasi. The tax bill was issued in 2024 despite Law No 1/2022 exempting religious educational institutions.

Law No 1/2022 on Center‑Region fiscal relations states that PBB does not apply to religious schools or non‑profit cultural activities. Nevertheless, PBB is a regional tax administered by the district government, while central taxes are managed by the Directorate General of Taxes.

The dispute highlights possible jurisdictional conflicts between central and regional authorities and the limited legal protection for non‑profit pesantren. Bekasi’s regional DPR has been asked to oversee the case to avoid administrative penalties.
