Purbaya Pushes Tax Gains to Cut 9,138 Debt Burden

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa said on 28 October 2025 that the government is working to increase tax receipts to reduce the central debt, which stood at 9.138 trillion rupiah at the end of June 2025.

The debt consists of government securities worth 7.981 trillion rupiah and loans of 1.157 trillion rupiah, giving a debt‑to‑GDP ratio of 39.86 %. The administration stresses efficient spending and reforms in tax and customs administration to strengthen revenue. Purbaya estimates the tax‑to‑GDP ratio could rise by 0.5–1 percentage point, adding at least 100 trillion rupiah to the budget.

The minister is touring regions to address implementation obstacles and to spur real‑sector growth, aiming for quarterly economic growth above 5 %. Higher tax revenue is expected to narrow the fiscal deficit without significantly increasing taxpayers’ burden.
