On 5 November 2025, the North Sumatra Regional Office of the Directorate General of Taxes (Kanwil DJP) blocked the bank accounts of 310 taxpayers. The action coincided with the 79th Oeang Day celebration.

These taxpayers owe a total of IDR 119 billion in taxes. After ignoring warning and compulsory letters, the office requested banks to freeze the amounts under Articles 29 and 30 of Treasury Regulation No 61/2023, which require banks to hold the debt plus collection fees.

The simultaneous block aims to boost compliance and safeguard state revenue, as taxpayers can settle their debts to avoid further collection actions. It also streamlines coordination between tax offices and banks.
