Greenpeace Calls for Billionaire Tax to Fund Climate Action
November 1, 2025 • Ben Asmadeus

Nairobi, 1 November 2025 – Greenpeace International called for a dedicated billionaire tax to finance climate action. The appeal was made on Saturday in Nairobi, Kenya.
The demand follows Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s proposal of a US$1 trillion (about Rp16 600 trillion) compensation package. Fred Njehu, Greenpeace Africa for Justice, said a fair tax on the ultra‑rich could fund flood prevention, clean air, green cities and affordable housing, and should be addressed in the upcoming UN Tax Convention negotiations.
Greenpeace has also released an interactive ‘Billionaire Taxometer’ tool to illustrate global tax disparities. The initiative aims to shape policy discussions ahead of Tesla’s annual shareholders meeting on 6 November 2025.
