Government Launches Welfare BLT and Paid Internship Program
October 20, 2025 • Ben Asmadeus

The Indonesian government officially launched two flagship initiatives on 20 October 2025: the Welfare Direct Cash Assistance (BLT) program and a paid internship scheme for university graduates. The BLT Welfare provides Rp300,000 per month for three months, amounting to Rp900,000 per beneficiary family. The internship program targets 20,000 fresh graduates in its first wave.
Both initiatives are components of the 2025 Economic Package, which includes eight acceleration programs for 2025 and four follow‑up programs for 2026, aiming to boost household purchasing power and job absorption. BLT payments will be distributed through the State‑Owned Banks Association (HIMBARA) and PT Pos Indonesia, while interns will receive monthly stipends based on regional minimum wages and full job‑loss and death insurance without deductions. To date, 1,668 companies have registered, offering 26,181 vacancies and attracting 156,159 applicants.
The BLT Welfare aims to reach over 35 million families, roughly 140 million individuals, to sustain consumer spending in the fourth quarter. The paid internship scheme is set to expand, with a second wave planned for November 2025 and a quota of up to 80,000 participants. Together, the programs illustrate the government's strategy of combining social protection with skill development for the young workforce.
