The Indonesian government plans to write off all BPJS Health premium arrears by the end of 2025. A budget of Rp20 trillion has been allocated for the program.
DPR Commission IX member Netty Prasetiyani Aher stresses that the waiver must be fair, limiting assistance to participants who are unable to pay. She highlights the need for data verification by synchronizing BPJS records with the National Social and Economic Data (DTSEN) and local population data.
Proper implementation could relieve financially vulnerable households and improve premium compliance. The DPR will monitor the rollout to prevent unfair treatment of participants who regularly pay.
