The Central Kalimantan provincial government announced a set of strategies to broaden the local tax base and optimise retributions, aiming for fiscal independence. The plan was presented on 1 November 2025 by Acting Secretary Leonard S. Apung.

The approach includes strengthening coordination between Bapenda (Regional Revenue Agency) and relevant ministries, digitising the tax collection system, and integrating data on tax objects such as surface water tax and heavy equipment tax. It follows three steps: updating and integrating data, launching a real‑time digital application, and implementing a data‑driven dashboard for monitoring retributions.

Successful implementation is expected to raise tax and retribution revenues, improve reporting accuracy, and support sustainable development in Central Kalimantan. Enhancing the capacity of local tax officials is also targeted to ensure transparency and fiscal efficiency.
