Budget Approved for Maung Vehicles, Production Capacity Still

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa said on Wednesday, 22 October 2025, that the budget for acquiring Maung vehicles produced by PT Pindad has been included in the 2025 State Budget (APBN). The vehicles are intended to serve as official cars for ministers.

Although the funds are secured, the purchase has been postponed because PT Pindad’s production capacity cannot yet meet the planned quantity. Purbaya noted that part of the allocated money will be returned until the manufacturer can scale up output.

The delay highlights the difficulties in building a domestic defence‑automotive industry while the government seeks greater self‑reliance. Procurement is expected to resume in the next fiscal year if production capacity improves.
