Bali Homestay Owners Protest Proposed Airbnb Ban

The Indonesia Homestay Association (IHSA) of Bali protested on 11 December 2025 in Denpasar against proposals to shut down digital‑platform‑based accommodations such as Airbnb. IHSA argues that such a ban could stall tourism growth and hurt small‑scale operators that rely on online marketing.
Governor Wayan Koster had earlier said he would study and submit a request to halt Airbnb operations, citing limited contribution to Regional Original Revenue (PAD) from hotel and restaurant taxes. IHSA chair Nyoman Dini Andiani rejected a total ban and called for inclusive regulation, legalization and clear data collection to enforce tax obligations without cutting platform access.
A revised, balanced policy could protect PAD while allowing local homestay owners to reach global markets. Collaborative regulation is expected to sustain the digital accommodation sector and its role in Bali’s economy.
