Indonesia and UK Discuss New Economic Partnership Framework

JAKARTA – Economy Coordinating Minister Airlangga Hartarto said on 24 October 2025 that the government is reviewing the proposed Economic Growth Partnership (EGP) between Indonesia and the United Kingdom. The discussion took place during the visit of British Ambassador Dominic Jermey to Indonesia. The meeting aimed to assess the potential of a new economic partnership.

Airlangga stressed that the EGP must have a clear strategic value, using both government‑to‑government and business‑to‑business approaches. He expects the partnership to strengthen clean energy, education, technology, financial services, and inclusive, sustainable trade and investment.

If finalized by the end of 2025, the EGP is set to become a key pillar of the New Strategic Partnership Agreement between the two nations. The framework also includes UK support for Indonesia’s accession to the CPTPP, which could expand regional trade opportunities.
