Purbaya to Investigate Government Time‑Deposit of 285.6 Trillion

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa announced that he will investigate the placement of government funds amounting to IDR 285.6 trillion in time‑deposit accounts at banks as of August 2025. The statement was made during the “One Year of Prabowo‑Gibran Administration” event at Hotel JS Luwansa in Jakarta.

He noted that the amount rose from IDR 204.2 trillion in December 2024, which was almost unchanged from IDR 204.1 trillion in 2023. Purbaya said banks usually assign a special code to identify government money, but the source and status remain unclear, and he suspects interest‑rate manipulation in several commercial banks, including members of the State‑Owned Banks Association (Himbara).

The minister stressed that managing the funds efficiently is crucial because deposit returns are lower than the interest the government pays on sovereign bonds, potentially causing fiscal loss. The investigation will continue to verify the origin of the money and prevent any loss to the state.
