Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa warned that the tax shortfall – the gap between actual receipts and the 2025 budget target – could widen this year. Tax collection up to September 2025 reached Rp1,295.3 trillion, 4.4% lower than a year earlier and only 59.1% of the Rp2,189.3 trillion target. The government projects year‑end receipts of Rp2,076.9 trillion, about 94.8% of the goal.

To boost revenue, the administration is rolling out stimulus measures such as tax incentives, expanded social assistance and a Rp200‑trillion injection into banks to finance the real sector. At the same time, the Coretax tax‑administration system is being upgraded with external IT experts, aiming for completion by the weekend to make collection more efficient.

Purbaya also backs a clean‑up of tax officials, supporting Director General Bimo Wijayanto’s anti‑corruption drive and the new “Lapor Pak Purbaya” hotline for public complaints. He said lax behavior in tax matters must end to prevent revenue leakage.
