Finance Minister Purbaya to Hire Hackers to Fix Coretax System

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa announced in Jakarta on 25 October 2025 that the government will recruit a hacker group to assist in fixing the Coretax system. The decision follows his acknowledgment of vulnerabilities in the tax administration platform.

Purbaya previously hired hackers to test the security of the Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS) and said collaborating with them is preferable to confronting them. He noted that Coretax repairs are delayed because the government lacks full source‑code access under a contract with vendor LG, limiting work to the upper and middle layers. Issues in the programming and operational layers remain unresolved.

He expects all obstacles to be cleared by January or February 2026 after the vendor contract expires. Involving the hacker group and obtaining the source code should speed up strengthening Coretax security, which is critical for the national tax administration.
