The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) announced on 26 October 2025 that schools in under‑served regions may operate independent kitchens for the Free Nutritious Meal program. The opportunity applies provided the school’s kitchen capacity meets required standards. BGN said it will match support to local conditions.

Currently, kitchens in remote areas are built by local governments or villages and leased by BGN for four years. Schools wishing to run their own kitchens must coordinate with the Ministry and the task force overseeing the program. BGN emphasized that it welcomes various forms of collaboration.

By fostering cross‑sector cooperation, BGN aims to ensure every Indonesian child receives safe, quality, and sustainable free nutritious meals. The measure is also intended to boost regional self‑reliance in improving nutrition outcomes.
