Bekasi Considers Waiving PBB Penalties to Speed Up Tax

Bekasi district government intends to remove the administrative penalty for late payment of the Land and Building Tax (PBB). The move aims to accelerate the release of tax receivables that have been slowed by a drop in central government transfers. Officials hope the policy will ease the district’s fiscal pressure.
The district revenue office reports outstanding PBB receivables of roughly Rp1 trillion, driven by low taxpayer awareness, lingering economic hardship, and data issues such as duplicate property records and inaccurate land values. Revenue head Iwan Ridwan said many taxpayers postpone payments because they feel unable to afford them.
He added that any penalty waiver must be applied fairly, offering relief to those truly unable to pay while maintaining proportionality for those who can.
